Ok I picked it up today and let me say I am impressed to the fullest extent. I will break this review into sections and take it or leave it.
Graphics - Well, if you compare the graphics to the technical capabilities of video game consoles today I would rate these graphics 6 out of 10. But due to the fact that the Wii for whatever dumb reason decided to not go the HD route along with its generation counterparts the Xbox 360 & PS3, the graphics of this game suffer. While they are still good if your comparing it to the graphics of other Wii games and the Wii's capabilities so, I will give it 7 out of 10
Presentation - It's a game and all games should have a cool theme and menu design and boy does this one deliver. Comes across great and is very easy on the eye. 8 out of 10
Gameplay - Very smooth and realistic. In alot of older games you would be able to take out Zdeno Chara with a tiny guy like Kimmo Timonen. Now with the new style gameplay the physics are incredibly real. If you were to try above said scenario Chara would stumble and Kimmo would crumble. The computer AI is also upped big time when you put the diffuculty on pro it really plays you like a pro. Also the other 4 skaters that you don't control don't just skate around with their thumb up their ass. They actually do things and take control of the situation. 10 out of 10
Controls - Compared to 2k9 controls are out of this league. Compared to 2k10 the controls are much easier and flow together smoothly. The improved Wii MotionPlus with 1 to 1 stick handling is AMAZING! The 1 to 1 stick handling makes it easier to pull of simple dekes and score flawlessly. 9 out of 10
Overall 34/40 = 85% (B+)
Also the game gets extra credit for featuring a replication of the Winter Classic game of last year complete with Fenway Park and actual rosters of that day. You can only play as the Flyers or the Bruins but it's still cool!
hope you enjoyed my review now back to smashing some pucks!
